The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa has stated emphatically that Palliatives are not meant for the well - to - do people but for the underprivileged in the communities.
Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa made the declaration during the flag off of the distribution of Palliatives at the council's Secretariat, Itori.
" Honestly, the intended people are the indigents, physically challenge, the aged people, widows , the penniless who really bear the brunt of fuel subsidy removal and not the affluent ones who can still find means of coping with the situation, though , everybody is affected but at least some people case is terrible." ---- the chairman explained.
The council's helmsman, therefore, promised that government will continue to fashion out ways to alleviate the suffering of masses occasioned by fuel subsidy removal.
I want to assure you that government will not relent in its efforts to cushion in the effect of fuel subsidy removal. I know it is very hard now, but it is good decision by the Federal Government in the interest of our country .I know for sure that there will be a light Behind the tunnel, let's just exercise patience." ---- he reassured.
Hon Adesina, therefore, used the occasion to express his gratitude on behalf of the people of the council area to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, president and commander - in - chief , Federal Republic of Nigeria for the provision of Palliatives to ease the impact of the hardship brought about by the fuel subsidy removal, while , equally , appreciating His Excellency, the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun,CON , for ensuring that the distribution of Palliatives cut across all the 20 local governments in the state.
Speaking with the council Information crew, the Vice Chairperson, the National Women In Council, ( NWC) , Ewekoro Local Government chapter, Mrs Ekundayo Abosede thanked president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the provision of Palliatives to the at the grassroots, most especially members of the National Women In Council (NWC).
Mrs Ekundayo, also gave kudos to the Council Chairman, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa for ensuring that the Palliatives get to the people who are seriously in need of it."
Also, speaking in a separate interview, Mrs Folashade Igbayilola , a widow, who could not hide her feelings, was full of praises, saying, " The government efforts will at least bring respite to the people for now, but let the government know that, the exercise should be a continuous one , so that the impact can be really felt. " --- the widow stated.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of Palliatives to the indigents by the council chairman.
While further distribution of Palliatives continue in the designated points within the council area.
Recall that in his inaugural speech on the 29th of May, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, announced the immediate end of the era of fuel subsidy, with the pronouncement, " Fuel Subsidy is gone."
The attendant effect is so intense that Nigerians are lamenting . However to ease the effect, Federal Government, including state governments have come up with action plan programmes , among which distribution of Palliatives is one of the measures taken so far by the government.
