Marathon Race: Chinese, Kenyan, Ethiopian Athletes Commend Ogun Govt On Good Road Network

The race, which commenced from the Onikolobo area of the state and terminated at the Alake's palace in Ake, saw Peter Mwaniki of Kenya emerged as the winner, covering the race in 28 minutes, 33 seconds.



The marathon race was held as part of activities marking the 80th birthday of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun

The race, which commenced from the Onikolobo area of the state and terminated at the Alake's palace in Ake, saw Peter Mwaniki of Kenya emerged as the winner, covering the race in 28 minutes, 33 seconds.




Other top finishers included; Kennedy Kipyeko, also from Kenya, came second, Abraham Akobeche- Kenya, came third, Charity Agofure- Keya, came forth, Francies James from Nigeria came fifth, Mark Chen of Hong Kong, China,  Viola Chelanga of Ethiopia, Stephen Joshua- Nigeria, Emmmanuel Gyamg- Nigeria among others.


Some of the routes the Athletes passed also include Ibara roundabout, Isale-Igbein, Sapon, Ijemo, Itoko, Saje, Kugba, Adatan and Isale Ake.


The first position was awarded $5, 000, the second position was awarded $3,000 while third position was given $1, 000, all in cheque .


While speaking to journalists,  the athletes expressed their delight at the quality of the roads in Ogun State, saying that it had made the race a much more enjoyable and easy experience.





"The roads were very good, and it made the race much easier," said Chen. "I am very impressed with the infrastructure in Ogun State."


Peter Mwaniki agreed, saying that the good roads had helped him to achieve her best time in the  marathon.



"I am very happy with my performance today," he said. "The roads were very good, and it helped me to run my best time. I will like to come here again for another marathon race"


The Deputy Governor of the State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele congratulated all the Athletes and assured that the government will continue to invest heavily in youth sports. 

"It's an opportunity for people to start to look for a career in sport.  His excellency is committed to youth development. As we look forward to 2024, that Ogun state will be hosting the National Sport Festival, we also call upon youths to support our local organizing committee to participate and also be spectators."
