The Ogun State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federated Chapel recently initiated steps towards unity and cohesion as it approaches an upcoming executive election.
The chapel's leadership recognized the importance of addressing internal challenges and differences among members, leading to a reconciliation meeting where grievances were discussed and common goals were identified.
This effort underscores the commitment of the Ogun NUJ Federated Chapel to uphold journalistic principles while fostering a harmonious community.
Alongside the reconciliation, preparations are underway for the executive election, a crucial opportunity for members to elect new leaders who will advocate for members' rights and welfare, as well as steer the chapel's activities.
Convened by Mr. Sina Oduntan, the meeting stressed the significance of unity among members. He emphasized that qualified individuals would enjoy full membership privileges, including the right to vote and be voted for.
In the discussions, Abu Satar highlighted the chapel's freedom to determine news story usage policies.
Evangelist Tunde Omolaolu emphasized the detrimental impact of division on progress, urging a collective effort to overcome differences.
Mr. Yomi Ogumsanu identified divisive factors related to elections and government largesse within the chapel. He called for open campaigning and peaceful dispute resolution, envisioning a new era of cooperation.
Mr. Lanre Adegboyega acknowledged the convener's efforts and announced his decision to withdraw from contesting any post.
Mr. Dada Olanipekun appealed for unity among members, recognizing the necessity of collective progress and respect for the incoming executive committee.
To ensure continuity, Mr. Sina Oduntan proposed including several members as associate members. Mr. Michael Azeez Ogunsiji was tasked with verifying the qualified count, resulting in eleven eligible members, while some were disqualified due to incomplete document submissions.
