The Ogun State Chapter of the Sports Writers  Association of Nigeria ( SWAN) has commended the Ogun State government for the rehabilitation of the M.K.O Abiola stadium but urged the government to extend the rehabilitation work to the mainbowl of the stadium which had been banned by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) from hosting any football event.

The commendation was given during the association's monthly Congress for the month of May,2023 , held at the association's Secretariat, Moshood Kashimawo  Abiola stadium.

In a communique issued and jointly signed by the SWAN Chairman,Ogun State Chapter, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde and the secretary, of the association , Michael Azeez Ogunsiji , appealed to Ogun State government to ensure that stadia across the state were equally rehabilitated while the Congress, also emphasized the need to rehabilitate the mundo turf at the M. K. O. Abiola stadium , Kuto  , which is in a dilapidated state.

The Congress, therefore applauded the Ogun State government, for keeping the promise made to the athletes that participated at the last National Sports Festival.

However, members of the Ogun State SWAN expressed their displeasure over the low level of commitment on the part of the government towards the proposed hosting of next year sports festival.

While doing the appraisal of the teams representing the state in the various national competitions, Remo stars FC was given a thumb up for their good performance in the NPFL but urged to put in more efforts in order to qualify for the SUPER 6 where they will vie for the continental ticket.

Similarly, the Congress, expressed satisfaction with the performances of both Stormers FC and Ijebu United in the NNL while the performance of the state owned team, Gateway FC ,left much to be desired and needed to buckle up.
