A release from the Secretariat of Allstars Football Club Abeokuta, Ogun State champion of 2018 Federations Cup and the first and only Allstars Football Club to have reached such feat in the entire Federation,signed by the President,Alhaji Waheed Lawal and the Secretary,Semiu Babalola,gives its unflinching commendation to the Ogun State government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun for immediate suspension of all political campaign activities in the state due to untold hardship brought about by the unpopular policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria for the replacement of the old N1000,N500 and N200 notes which had been redesigned
The most troubled of it all is the condition that the old currency will seize to be legal tender by 10th February,2023 causing the surrender of old currency notes into the Treasury of banks with expectation that new notes will be available for the citizenry,but unfortunately,the reverse has been the case as the scenario had turned the land to chaos while people scramble to have the new notes in their coffers.
For the state Government to deem it fit to suspend its rallies and campaigns is commendable and the entire members of our Club is not only appreciating this but showing support and confidence in this administration.
News reports have it that Governor Abiodun today paid an unscheduled visit to the Abeokuta branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) to seek relief on the amounts that citizens can withdraw in exchange for deposits made in Commercial Banks
We learnt that the Governor offered to lend members of his Cabinet to monitor cash distribution to Banks to ensure that no commercial bank or their Agents hoard the new Naira Notes in the State
The Governor had earlier met with President Muhammadu Buhari and the CBN Governor,all in a bid to have a lasting solution to the imbroglio
