Osimhen Mocks Jeering Verona Fans With Goal Celebration In Napoli Big Away Win

Verona fans sure have an axe to grind with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who always punishes them with goals.

The Nigeria

international was booed by the fans when both clubs met at the Studio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Verona last season, being the hatchet man of the Azzurri, who had the upper hand.

Their apathy for the 23-year-old assumed a higher dimension tonight during the 2022-2023 Italian Serie opening day’s clash at the same venue, where Luciano Spalletti’s team ran out 5-2 victorious.

Unfazed by their jeers and boos, the former Lille player weighed in with a goal and one assist, mocking the fans with his goal celebration in the picture above, which shows him pointing two fingers to his eyes.

Kevin Lasagna put the home team in front on 29 minutes, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia levelled up scores on 37 minutes, while Osimhen put Napoli 2-1 up on the stroke of half time.

Thomas Henry drew Verona level on 48 minute, while
Piotr ZieliÅ„ski, Stanislav Lobotka, and Matteo Politano accounted for three other goals on 55, 65, and 79 minutes respectively, with Osimhen, who was replaced on 83 minutes by Adam Ounas assisting Politano for Napoli’s fifth goal.

Osimhen has been linked with a slew of top European clubs this summer, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Newcastle United, but the €110 million price tag has seen his suitors retrace steps after making enquiry.

He has always expressed his desire to continue his football at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to help Napoli do better that their third-place finish last season. He starred in today’s win on the road as Napoli provided the first evidence of their Serie A title credentials at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Napoli won the last Serie A meeting between the sides, triumphing 2-1 at the same venue, with Osimhen leading the Partenopei with goals in the 14th and 71st minute.

Napoli are now unbeaten in their last four Serie A matches against Verona, winning two and drawing two.
