Ogun State Governor,Prince Dapo Abiodun has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sustainable Industrial waste management.
Governor Abiodun gave the assurance while speaking bat the just concluded two-days workshop organised by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA, for Health,Safety and Environmental Personnel of Industries in the state on Industrial Waste Management with the theme "Enhancing Industrial Waste Management For a Future , Regulatory compliance ,public Health and Global Practises " in Abeokuta.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako Oyedele, Governor Abiodun said with Ogun State's position as Nigeria's industrial hub,there is the need for regulatory compliance to global best practices to protect the environment.
He therefore urged Industries operating in the state to adopt innovative waste management practices,enhance their efficiency, increase their compliance with national and global best standard as well as foster a stronger connection to the communities in which they operate.
While assuring them of government's continuous provision of enabling environment to make their businesses thrive while operating within national and global standards, Governor Abiodun added that the state government will not compromise the health of its residents and the integrity of the ecosystem.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya said in line with Sustainable Development Goal 9, the state government will ensure healthy and safer environment for residents of the state and urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to get themselves acquainted with the latest in global waste management practices.
For the Special Adviser and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, the workshop was an opportunity for participants to engage, collaborate and share ideas and rethink their approach to sustainable waste management.
Two of the participants, Mr Dauda Teslim of Dahua Paper Mills and Mrs Opeoluwa,a Waste Vendors appreciated the state government and OGWAMA for the training which they said will impact positively on Industrial the waste management in the state.
